Renault Clio Renault Sport 2.0 16V

The Renault Clio was launched in the spring of 1998 amidst much anticipation. With its significantly curvy and voluptuous design, it was a stark departure from its predecessor. The car was equipped with an array of parts fashioned from lightweight and inexpensive materials such as plastic and aluminium. It had an array of slight engine sizes for its petrol version (1.2 L, 1.4 L and 1.6 L) as well as a 1.9 L diesel. Early into the 2000s, an impressively sporty 16V model was released with a more powerful and economical 1.6 L 16-valve engine. That same year, Renault introduced the 169 PS (124 kW) Clio Renault Sport (also known as Clio RS for short and Clio Renault Sport 172 in the UK, where it was sold for less than €17,500). This model featured a significantly powerful 2.0L 16-valve engine as well as a top speed of 220 km/h (140 mph). The top-of-the-range Clio, the Clio V6 Renault Sport, contained a 230 PS (170 kW) 3.0L V6 motor sourced from the Renault Laguna, which had a whopping top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph). Minor changes to the Clio range in 2000 included a revised specification levels, a new instrument cluster and a passenger airbag included as standard for all models. In 2000, the Clio obtained a four-star Euro NCAP rating, making it a class-leading vehicle.
