Renault Espace 1984 posters

Renault Espace

The Renault Espace is a large MPV, currently in its fourth generation, which is able to seat seven passengers. Along with the Dodge Caravan, it was the original minivan when it was first launched in 1984. Initially the concept was designed by Fergus Pollock for Chrysler UK and later Matra of France was also involved in its development. Originally meant for sale as a Talbot, the warm-galvanized steel chassis and fiberglass body of the Espace were produced using the same method and assembly line as the Talbot Matra Murena. PSA Peugeot Citroën declined to manufacture the Espace but, with Renault taking up the idea, the car then went into production in 1978. The longer-wheelbase version of the Espace is the Renault Grand Espace, which can also hold luggage for its seven passengers.
