Espace I (1984-1991) The design for the Espace was created by the British designer Fergus Pollock when he was working for Chrysler UK's Coventry design centre. Chrysler UK and Simca later partnered with Matra to finalize the design and plan the production. Initially, PSA Peugeot Citroën wasn't on board with the project, however, later Matra brought it to Renault. As a result, the car was eventually produced with a fiberglass body mounted on a warm-galvanized steel chassis, and manufactured in the same factory as the Talbot Matra Murena.
