Renault Espace Initiale 2.2 dCI 16V
The 1997 Renault Espace III had a unique and futuristic interior, which featured a long dashboard stretching across the middle as well as a digital speedometer and radio/CD display. It was the first Espace with a plastic body made of GRP over a galvanised steel chassis, a feature shared with the same era Renault Laguna. As well as regular production, a considerable amount of Espace III's were converted into NGV and taxi vehicles for use in Malaysia, rebranded as the Enviro 2000.
Matra and MG Rover considered collaborating to produce a reskinned Espace III but the project never came to fruition. The Espace III marked the end of Matra producing Renault vehicles, although the short-lived Avantime was subsequently produced in the same factory.
