Renault Fiftie Concept 1996 posters

Renault Fiftie Concept

In 1996, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of 4CV's launch, the Renault Fiftie concept car was presented. While its exterior styling drew major inspiration from its predecessor, the two-door, mid-engine Fiftie was a distinct design compared to the four-door and rear-mounted engine of 4CV. To create a modern yet diverse feel, the interior of the concept car was outfitted using an assortment of fabrics such as cotton, linen, and rattan. Unlike most concept cars at the time, the Fiftie was not only for display, but also fully functioning on the roads. it shared most of the chassis, suspension and mechanisms from the Renault Sport Spider. It was also made to showcase the newly-developed D7F 1.2-liter 8-valve four-cylinder engine, which was featured on the Twingo shortly after its introduction. At the time, the Fiftie received mostly positive reviews, yet it did not spark any massive demand for a production variant, unlike the much successful Volkswagen Concept 1 (later the New Beetle). Therefore Renault chose to keep the Fiftie how it was originally intended - a unique ode to France's automotive past.
