Renault Fregate

The Renault Frégate was a large car produced by the French automaker Renault between 1951 and 1960. It was an upmarket model to both improve the company's image and satisfy the needs of the recovering postwar economy. After the initial rear-engined 4CV prototype, Renault chose a front-engined layout, which was introduced at the 1950 Paris Motor Show. The first models were delivered in November 1951 and came in two trim levels - Affaires and Amiral. In 1956, Renault addressed the complaints of the 2 litre engine's lack of power by introducing the 2141 cc Etendard engine, producing 77 hp. An estate car model known as the Domaine was also released, along with the luxurious Grand Pavois specification. Despite these improvements, sales of the Frégate gradually declined throughout the 1950s and the model was discontinued in 1960 after a total of 163,383 units were made in Flins, France.
