Renault Fuego 1980 posters

Renault Fuego

The Renault Fuego was a four-seater, three-door hatchback heavily based on the Renault 18. It was produced in Europe until 1987, and the 'Fuego GTA Max' was produced in Argentina until 1992. In the US, Renault sold the Fuego through American Motors Corp. dealers from 1982 to 1985. The Fuego was a revolutionary design compared to its predecessors, the R15 and R17, having a curvaceous style instead of wedge-shaped. The various model variants included TL, TS, GTS, TX, and GTX. The Fuego Turbo was added in 1983 with new trim and a midlife facelift. One noteworthy appearance of the Fuego was in two James Bond films - A View to a Kill and GoldenEye. When Renault released the Fuego in the UK, it was aimed towards Opel Manta and Ford Capri buyers. Despite its reliability and several impressive engines, the Fuego's image suffered and it had its fair share of troubles in the early 1980s. Renault never released a direct replacement for the Fuego.
