Renault Modus Initiale
The production version of the Renault Modus Initiale is quite similar to the concept car with the same name. It is worth noting that this vehicle gets its platform and much of its engine range from the latest incarnation of the Clio, and is specifically created for people who want the practicality and versatility of the larger Renault Scénic but in a smaller size. Additionally, the Clio platform that spawned the Modus, has provided inspiration for the Nissan Micra and its monospace relative, the Nissan Note.
In order to increase the practicality of the Modus, a few innovative features were added. One of these features is the Triptic seating system, which puts the rear seats on sliding rails with four preset positions. When in the furthest back positions, two people can fit comfortably, with increased leg, hip, and shoulder room. But when the seats are in the forward positions, they can be configured for three people, sacrificing some comfort for the purpose of increased cargo space. Additionally, there is a flip-up cushion on the front passenger seat squab, which leaves a space for the driver to store small items to prevent them from rolling into the footwell.
The Modus stands out due to its Boot Chute, a drop-down opening at the centre of the tailgate, and below the rear window. This feature enables the user to retrieve smaller items from the boot even when the car is parked nose-to-tail with other vehicles, as it would otherwise be inconvenient to do so. This Boot Chute feature is similar to what is featured on the original Mini.
Among the other features included on the Modus are automatic headlamps and windshield wipers, which were among the first of their kind in the small car class. Furthermore, this vehicle was the first of its type to get a five star safety rating from NCAP, thanks to its 6 airbag system, front and rear side impact bars, and ISOFIX child seat fixing points.
