Renault Scenic RX4

The Renault Scénic introduced a new class of vehicles to Europe when it was first released in 1996. It is a compact MPV based on the chassis of the Mégane, and features engines 1.4L, 1.6L, 1.8L petrol and 1.9L diesel units. The Scénic’s popularity led Renault to massively increase its production from 450 cars per day to up to 2,500. Since then, other manufacturers have followed suit and developed similar models.

Phase 2 (1999)

In 1999, the Scénic was given a minor facelift to coincide with the Mégane hatchback styling. The 16-valve engines were made available and the Scénic gained the official ‘Scénic’ title. The car is still in production in Brazil, available with a range of flexible fuel engines.

Scénic RX4

Renault released the 4WD derivative of its family car, the Scénic RX4. It featured a variable centre differential providing part-time, on-demand 4WD. The suspension was redesigned to improve balance and stability, however, the 2.0L Mégane engine restricted the vehicle’s low-end torque. Production of the RX4 ended in 2003, and there is currently no direct replacement.
