Renault Twingo Oasis

The Renault Twingo is a small and practical city car that has been built by the French automaker Renault since 1993. It has been popular for its quirky design and ease of use. It was originally designed under the guidance of Patrick Le Quément, Renault's chief designer, who believed taking risks was important and had seen Renault's market share falling due to cars such as the Renault 9 and 11.

It is thought that the Twingo may have been influenced by the ships from the Konami videogame Twinbee, however Renault have not stated this. Another potential design link is the Polish prototype Beskid.

The Twingo was ahead of its time, containing a centrally mounted instrument panel, consisting of a speedometer, fuel gauge and clock, that could have its odometer and trip recorder selected by pushing a button on the end of the steering column stalk. It also had a sliding rear seat to increase space and a boot parcel shelf that was attached to the tailgate.

When the first Twingo's were launched, Renault didn't want to bring it to the British market as they were concerned it would take away sales from the newly launched Clio. Its success has since proved them wrong, as it has been as popular as cars such as Fiat Cinquecento, Ford Ka, Opel Corsa and Smart Fortwo.

Despite its success, it is yet to overtake the Ford Ka in the A-class segment.
