Renault 25 V6 Turbo

The Renault 25 was an executive car designed for the French automaker Renault, produced from 1983 to 1992. It was the most luxurious and upmarket Renault of its time and was the second-place finisher in the 1985 European Car of the Year contest. Despite its reliability issues, particularly among models made before the car's 1988 revamp, it was a solid seller in France, though it couldn't quite attain the success of German brands' dominance in executive cars. All 25s were built in Sandouville, near Le Havre, France.

Introduction

The Renault 25 was introduced as a 1984 model and was a much larger step up from the Renault 20 / Renault 30 range compared to the previous models. It was designed by Robert Opron, of Citroën SM fame, with a wraparound rear window to give it a notchback look and meet customer preferences outside of France for formal sedans in this segment. In addition, it was one of the first cars of its time to be designed for aerodynamics, yielding a drag coefficient of 0.31. It was also more efficient in terms of fuel use, with its TS model holding the unofficial title of 'most aerodynamic mass-production car' with a coefficient of 0.28.

The Renault 25 was available with either 4 or 6-cylinder engines mounted front-wheel drive longitudinally forward of the front axle. It offered above-average performance for its class, especially in the V6 Turbo specification, which was able to compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-Series.
