Rinspeed zaZen Concept

The Rinspeed concept car, "zaZen", created by renowned Swiss designer, Frank M. Rinderknecht, presents his vision of the car of the future. The world premiere of the "zaZen" at the Geneva Motor Show on February 28, 2006 was designed in cooperation with Bayer MaterialScience, one of the world's leading plastics producers. Featuring a revolutionary lighting technique and transparent hardtop, the car is a representation of "automotive enlightenment" on four wheels. The backlite has been converted to a luminous holographic area and the third brake light is produced from the floating transparent hardtop. This culmination of technologies marks a new era in lighting technology and car design. According to Ian Paterson, who is responsible for innovation on the Board of Bayer MaterialScience, this lighting system is a stepping stone towards the car of tomorrow. As for the name of the car, Rinderknecht chose it to represent the Buddhist teaching of "Zen", which requires one to give up preconceived ideas. Both companies emphasize the concept car only serves as one snapshot of an ever-advancing development process. For instance, the work on the switch-on/off transparency for three-dimensional forms is continuously ongoing.
