Rolls-Royce Phantom

When the Rolls-Royce Phantom was launched in 2003, it marked a new era for the marque. A vision to live up to Sir Henry Royce's famous maxim of "Strive for perfection in everything you do", the design and engineering teams, each steeped in the company's storied history, set out to develop a car that epitomised the brand's Spirit of Ecstasy. What they perfected at the newly established facility in Goodwood was a 21st century Rolls-Royce worthy of its illustrious heritage and a car expressly designed for the modern era. The design process was fundamental to the success of the Phantom. Chief Designer Ian Cameron set out to convey a strong identity and ensure the car was unmistakably Rolls-Royce from any angle. Traditional elements such as a long bonnet, wide C-pillars and discrete windows were infused with a powerful upright stance and dynamic rising profile as well as modern features such as an aluminium spaceframe and a pioneering direct petrol-injection engine. Ultimately, the Phantom integrated the best of both worlds. Mixing vintage style with unparalleled innovation, it remains a timeless effort that correctly reaffirms Rolls-Royce's role as a leader in automotive design and engineering.
