In 2006, the Rolls-Royce 101EX prototype was unveiled, displaying an electrifying design direction for a modern coupé. The rapturous global reception of the 101EX prompted Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to announce in 2007 that a series model would enter production the following summer. This would complete Phantom family, which consists of the Rolls-Royce Phantom, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé, and the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe.
In March 2008, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupè made its official debut at the Salon International de l'Automobile, Geneva. This marks the third model to be introduced since BMW Group assumed ownership of the marque in 1998.
