Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars unveiled their new Phantom Drophead Coupé at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2007 and began production at Goodwood in the summer. This two-door, four-seat convertible takes classic Rolls-Royce design and gives it a less formal interpretation, featuring an all-aluminium spaceframe and a sleek, streamlined body. With its long bonnet, large-diameter wheels and dynamic line, the exterior boasts the timeless styling of classic Rolls-Royce vehicles. The interior is designed to emphasize the feeling of open-top motoring, creating an impressive, social atmosphere. The Chief Designer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Ian Cameron, stated, “This car gave us the chance to think about the very nature of convertible motoring and in particular what it means to Rolls-Royce. Above all we were determined to make this car a joy to live with and engineered it to give years of effortless service to its owner.” Adding to the car’s beauty and practicality are features first seen on the Rolls-Royce 100EX, the experimental convertible revealed in 2004. These elements include a brushed steel bonnet and A-pillar, and teak decking on the rear hood cover. The steel is machine finished and then hand-polished for a perfect sheen, while the teak is treated with an oil blend that preserves naturalness and long-lasting lustre.
