Rolls-Royce Phantom Naples Winter Wine Festival Auction

The Rolls-Royce Phantom is a luxurious saloon automobile that was manufactured by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a subsidiary of BMW. It was officially released for public sale in 2003 and was the first auto to bear the Rolls-Royce name after BMW acquired ownership of the iconic brand. Specifications The luxury limo packs a 6.8L, 48 valve V12 engine that is capable of producing 453 horsepower (338 kW) as well as 531 ft·lbf (720 N·m) of torque. Deriving from BMW's existing V12 powerplant, the engine gives the Phantom a 0-60 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time of 5.7 seconds. It is 1.63m (63 inches) tall, 1.99m (74.8 inches) wide, and 5.83m (228 inches) long whilst weighing a subsidized 2485 kg (5478 lb). The body is built with an aluminum spaceframe and has a 6-speed automatic transmission and double wishbone suspension. For the US market, the car has side markers with the rear ones being red to satisfy federal car lighting regulations. An extended wheelbase Phantom was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 which was extended by 250mm compared to the standard Phantom. Design When designing the Phantom, BMW took extra steps to make sure that it wasn't perceived as an extension of their own vehicle range. In comparison to 15% of common components shared between the Phantom and other BMW models such as those of the BMW 7 Series, the Phantom is able to maintain Rolls-Royce's signature traditional design. This was done whilst avoiding being seen as another Mercedes Maybach after the latter was criticized for producing a vehicle that simply seemed like an upgraded version of the S-Class, albeit sold at a higher price point. To avoid such backlash, the Phantom is only sold through dealerships separate from those of BMW.
