Rover 200

The third generation Rover 200, also known as the R3 model, was created by Rover to replace the ageing Metro. Although sharing some of the same parts of the 200-series that it replaced, it was largely a new design. Honda had provided some support to Rover during initial body work design, as production of the Honda version of the previous 200-series had shifted to Swindon. However, as a result of a BMW takeover, the R3 model utilised solely Rover-produced K-Series petrol engines and L-series diesel engines. The Rover 200 R3 model was initially released with 1.4i 16v and 1.6i 16v petrol engines, plus 2.0 turbodiesel engines. The range eventually expanded to include a 1.1i, 1.4i 8v, 1.8 16v standard, and 1.8 16v variable valve formats. Manual gearboxes were available as a standard option, and a CVT was available on the 1.6i 16v unit.
