Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible

The Saab 9-3 Aero Convertible is a compact executive car that was originally developed and manufactured by the Swedish automaker Saab. It was first based on the GM2900 platform, which was later changed to the GM Epsilon platform. The 9-3 was designed with revisions from its predecessor, the Saab 900 (1994-1998 model); these changes included a revised suspension to help tighten up the car's handling, a black rear spoiler, and the elimination of Saab's trademark centrally-mounted "snow flap". Other vehicles using this GM Epsilon platform include the Opel Vectra and Cadillac BLS.

The vehicle was marketed as "9-3" (pronounced "nine three") and was introduced for the 1998 model year. It could be purchased as either a three or five-door hatchback, or a two-door convertible. Along with improved ride and handling, the 9-3 was the first in its class to feature full side airbags, as well as active headrests. It was also the last Saab small car to use the company's H engine.

The first generation 9-3 was released in 1998, with the last model produced in 2002/3. Saab manufactured the 9-3 convertible in 2003, but declared bankruptcy after building only a few hundred. It should not be confused with the Saab 93 (pronounced "ninety three"), which was a car produced from 1955 to 1960.
