Saab 9-3 Aero Coupe

The Saab 9-3 was a compact executive car developed and manufactured by the Swedish automaker Saab. This car was named as "93" starting from the 1998 model year for which it was based on the GM Epsilon platform, shared by Opel Vectra and the Cadillac BLS. Saab's last owners, NEVS, were producing the 9-3 sedan (saloon) for a very short period, before the company declared bankruptcy in 2013.

First generation (1998-2002/3)

The first-generation 9-3, which was an improved version of the Saab 900 (NG), was launched in 1998 for the 1999 model year. It was referred to as OG 9-3 (old generation) or body style 9400. It continued all through the 2002 model year, except for the convertible has been produced only in 2003 before being succeeded by a redesigned 9-3 for the 2003 model year. This car was not to be confused with the Saab 93, pronounced "ninety three", which was manufactured from 1955 to 1960, and therefore it was advertised as 9-3, pronounced as "nine three".

The OG 9-3 was made available as a three or five-door hatchback, and as a two-door convertible. It featured improved styling, with some models receiving a glossy black rear spoiler. This model had a revised suspension for better handling, and improved crashworthiness due to the introduction of standard side-impact airbags with head protection and active headrests. Furthermore, it carried on the Saab tradition of running an effective moose test.
