Saab 9-5 Saloon BioPower

The Saab 9-5 Saloon BioPower is an executive car that was produced by the Swedish automobile maker Saab. It was introduced in 1997, replacing the Saab 9000 for the 1998 model year. The 9-5 was a major leap forward for Saab and released in the U.S for the 1999 model year. Engines This model ran on two Saab-made powerplants, the B205 and B235 straight-4 options, and from 2002 onwards, a 2.2 diesel engine - the Saab D223L (which was replaced in 2006 by Fiat's 1.9 JTD 16V engine). It also had a turbocharged GM 54° engine (Saab B308), which was available between 1999 to 2003 and could only be fitted with an automatic transmission – easily distinguishable by its twin tailpipes. V6 engines were only featured in Arc, SE, and Griffin models, but in 2004, this was replaced by a high-pressure turbo straight-4 producing a maximum of 220 horsepower (160 kW). By 2006, the engine was producing an even higher 260 hp (190 kW) across all non-Aero and non-sport models in the U.S. The B205 & B235-based 9-5 models were known to suffer from high rates of engine failure due to oil sludge. This primarily affected the 1999-2003 models. Consequently, Saab issued engine update kits, as well as refining the engine's positive crankcase ventilation system. To prevent further issues, Saab also recommends the use of a full synthetic or synthetic blend oil. To appease owners, GM laid down an eight-year warranty on the engine for 4-cylinder models for the original owners, provided they kept to the manufacturer's oil change intervals.
