Saab 9-5 SportWagon

The Saab 9-5 was first launched in 1997, replacing the Saab 9000 for the 1998 model year. It was marketed as an executive car and represented a great step forward for the Swedish automobile maker. Its debut in the United States was in 1999 for the 1999 model year. EnginesThe 9-5 has been available with a variety of engines, including Saab's B205 and B235 straight-4 and Opel Ecotec X22DTH 2.2 diesel (Saab D223L), replaced in 2006 by Fiat's 1.9 JTD 16V diesel straight-4. The car has also featured a turbocharged GM 54° engine (designated B308) between 1999 and 2003. This particular engine was only available with an automatic transmission and is distinguishable by its twin tailpipes. The V6 engine was initially featured but was replaced in 2004 with the high pressure turbo straight-4 engine, which went on to produce 220 hp (160 kW) by 2006. Moreover, it should be noted that the 9-5 models with B205 and B235 engines have a high rate of engine failure related to engine oil sludge, commonly seen in the 1999-2003 models. To address this issue, Saab revised the engine's positive crankcase ventilation system, with fully synthetic oil recommended as a preventative measure. GM further extended its warranty for original owners to 8 years, provided they can prove they followed the manufacturer's oil change intervals.
