Saab 900 Turbo 16S

The Saab 900 was first released as a 1979 model in 1978, and was produced until 1993 (with cabriolets continuing until 1994). It was primarily based on the Saab 99 chassis, but featured a longer front end to meet U.S. crash regulations. With a good aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.34, it was available as a 2- or 4-door sedan, a 3- or 5-door coupe, and from 1986, a cabriolet. There were a range of single- and twin-carburetor, fuel-injection and turbocharged engines, comprising of both full pressure turbos (FPT) and, in European models of the 90s, low pressure turbos (LPT). The 900 was a front-engined, front-wheel-drive car with a longitudinally-mounted, 45-degree slanted, inline 4-cylinder engine, double wishbone front suspension and beam-axle rear suspension. During its time it was well-loved for its comfort, safety, practicality (particularly hatchbacks) and highway manners. It had several unique design features, such as its 'backwards' engine, with power delivered from the crank at the front, and its transmission, a transaxle that bolted directly to the bottom of the engine, with its own separate oil sump.
