Saab 93

The Saab 93, first announced on August 18, 1955 and presented December 1 of the same year, was the company's first automobile. Styled by Sixten Sason, it boasted a 748 cc three-cylinder two-stroke engine which generated 33 hp (25 kW). Months later, two-point seatbelts were offered as an option. Featuring a three-gear gearbox and freewheel device for overrun control, the 93 also marked Saab's first export to foreign markets, mainly the United States. In 1957, this model was updated as the 93B, with a one-piece windshield replacing the two-piece version. This same year, Saab 93 drivers Erik Carlsson won the Finland and Swedish rallies, further helping to increase the 93's fame. Later, the 93F was introduced and included front-hinged doors from the Saab GT750 and 95 models. The 93 was discontinued in 1960 with the arrival of the 96, though both models were sold side-by-side earlier that same year. A total of 52,731 Saab 93s were produced. Today, this classic car is owned by Jay Leno in a grey 1958 93B form.
