Saab 93 SportCombi

The Saab 9-3 is a compact executive car manufactured by the Swedish automaker Saab. It was released for the 1998 model year, shocking enthusiasts with its radical changes from the Saab 900 (1994-1997 model) which it was based on. It was built upon the GM2900 and subsequently the GM Epsilon platform, the same platform also used for the Opel Vectra and the Cadillac BLS.

Badged as 93 from 1998, the 9-3 was advertised as "nine three". Generator of a substantially larger range of models than the Saab 900, it was available as a three or five-door hatchback, and as a two-door convertible. It was powered by the Saab H engine, and boasts numerous improvements over its predecessor, such as a revised suspension, styling updates and side impact airbags with head protection and active headrests.

The 9-3 also adhered to Saab's safety tradition of performing a moose test.

First generation (1998-2002/3)

The first generation 9-3, an improved Saab 900 (NG) was launched in 1998 for the 1999 model year, and continued as a full line through the 2002 model year. By 2003, only the convertible model of this line was being assembled - other models were replaced by the second generation 9-3.
