Saab BioPower 100 Concept

The Saab BioPower 100 Concept, revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, is the very first turbo engine to be optimized for pure, environmentally-friendly bioethanol (E100) fuel. This unique concept exhibits the level of performance never before seen on the road with this type of fuel. This Saab BioPower concept is an elevated version of the technology, demonstrating the potential of a combination of turbocharging, advanced engine management and bioethanol fuel. The concept also highlights how green motoring can mean sportier driving, furthering Saab's leadership in Europe's 'flex-fuel' segment. The Saab BioPower 100 Concept is based on a modified 2.0-liter turbo production gasoline engine of Saab 9-5's range. This engine usually has peak power of 150 hp but through modifications to the engine management system and inner components, it has enhanced to a peak power of 300 hp; which is an impressive specific power output of 150 hp per liter. Jan Åke Jonsson, Saab Automobile's Managing Director, says: "This exciting concept displays the amazing potential of bioethanol, in regards to performance and future opportunities to 'rightsize' engines. Bioethanol is already available in Europe in the form of E85 fuel and we look forward to further infrastructure developments that will make it more accessible."
