Scion TRDEquipped xB

The Scion xB is a small wagon based on the Toyota Yaris platform and was the American-market version of the Japanese-based Toyota bB. It is powered by the 108 hp (81 kW) 1NZ-FE engine, rated at 6000 rpm and 105 lb-ft of torque at 4200 rpm. The xB was one of two models of Toyota's US-exclusive Scion division, the other being the xA that is based on the Toyota ist.

Advertising and marketing of the Scion xB was then mainly targeted towards Generation Y, Americans born in 1978 or later. This age group has a noteworthy large presence in the car consuming world, which makes them an essential target for car companies. The xB's unique combination of van-like cargo and passenger space with a very compact size led it to outsell the xA 2 to 1, which was opposite of what Toyota had initially expected.

Differences between the xB and the bB

One of the differences between the xB and the bB, aside from the switch from right to left-hand drive, was in the front passenger area. The bB featured a front bench seat with a column-mounted shifter, while the xB has two front bucket seats with shifter mounted on the floor. Also, the bB was available with either a 1.3 L 2NZ-FE engine or a 1.5 L 1NZ-FE mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive, while the xB only has the 1NZ-FE with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission, but does not have the option of AWD.

The xB also comes with a compact spare tire, stored under the left side of the rear cargo floor, and a storage compartment on the right side of the spare tire to reclaim some of the lost storage space. A jack is provided under the driver's seat. The Toyota bB, in contrast, does not come with a spare tire.
