Seat Altea 1.6
The SEAT Altea is a compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) produced by the Spanish automaker SEAT since 2004. Designed by the Italian Walter de Silva and launched in 2004, the Altea marked the arrival of SEAT's new corporate look. Its third-generation Toledo was identical, except for a larger bootsize. Another extended version, the Altea XL, was first presented at the 2006 Paris Motor Show; and the all-wheel-drive Altea Freetrack with higher suspension was released in 2007. After a decade, the popular MPV got discontinued in August 2015, although SEAT is following the global shift from MPVs to SUVs with the 2016 launch of its León-based model, the Atea. Believed to be the Altea's successor, the Ateca claims a total of 439 Altea and 445 Altea XL models sold in the UK in 2014.
The Altea, released a few years after its contemporaries, sold more than expected with over 31,223 vehicles sold in its initial year. It is a functional and sporty 5-seater option based on Volkswagen Group's A5 (PQ35) platform. The 'vertical parked' windscreen wipers intended to enhance pedestrian safety and a clean windscreen are its unique design features. The car strikes a balance between style and function with six trim levels; Essence, Reference, Reference Sport, Stylance, Sport and FR. The 2.0 FR Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) offers 125 kilowatts (170 PS; 168 bhp) of power. Consumers can choose from four gearboxes: five or six-speed manual, five-speed tiptronic automatic, and six or seven-speed Direct-Shift Gearbox. It is named after the Spanish city of Altea.
