The SEAT Ibiza Mk3 is the second Ibiza generation model to be fully produced under Volkswagen Group ownership. Built upon the PQ24 platform, shared with the Volkswagen Polo Mk4, it was designed by the renowned Italian designer Walter de Silva with a sporty, performance image. This supermini model offers two hot hatch variations - the Ibiza FR and Cupra - making up for the lack of Polo hot hatch models. The Ibiza Mk3's main plant is located in Martorell, Spain, while a portion (up to 50,000 units a year) is produced in Volkswagen's Bratislava, Slovakia, facility. This model is larger than its predecessors, providing accommodation for five and having a decently-sized boot. In 2003, the SEAT Ibiza Mk3 was awarded 'Car of the Year' and 'Supermini of the Year' by What Car? magazine. Not only a personal vehicle, this model is also popular for other purposes, such as police cars and rally cars. It has eight trim levels - Award, S, SX, Stylance, Reference, Signo, Stella, Sport, FR, and Cupra - each trimmed with exclusive details. The refacelifted version of the Mk3 Ibiza was released in 2006. Small cosmetic changes were applied to both the interior and exterior, and some models feature power increase and a new 1.4 litre Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine. The FR and Cupra TDI feature a 1.9 litre Pumpe-Düse diesel, with outputs of 130 PS (96 kW; 128 bhp) and 165 PS (121 kW; 163 bhp), respectively. When tested in 2002, the SEAT Ibiza Mk3 achieved a 4 star overall safety rating in the Euro NCAP assessment scheme.
