Skoda Fabia WRC 05
The Škoda Fabia is a small 5-door hatchback built by Škoda Auto that uses the VW Group's A00 platform, shared by models such as the Volkswagen Polo and SEAT Ibiza. It is a successor to the Felicia, which had been discontinued in 2001. The car is offered in hatchback, estate and saloon models. The hatchback is by far the most popular of the three. The estate has also become fairly popular, while the saloon has been less popular in places where saloons are not as beloved - for example, the United Kingdom. The Fabia has proved popular with an array of engine, body styles and trim levels that are priced to undercut vehicles in the Volkswagen Group. The car's only unique mechanical element is the 1.4 8v "MPI" engine - a modification to Skoda's own 1.3, used in pre-Volkswagen models such as the Favorit. The lineup shifted and improved in time, and it ultimately included Ambiente, Ambiente SE, Blackline, Silverline, Sport, Bohemia (estate) and the vRS. Easy and Junior models are sold in Eastern European markets with lower budgets, and lack features like painted bumpers and gloveboxes. A van version called the Fabia Praktik also exists in these markets. In 2005, the Fabia received a facelift that changed its grille, front fog lights and rear lights, as well as providing a revised specification level and a new steering wheel. Most significantly, the Sport model was added, equipped with a 75hp 1.4 petrol engine mated to a manual transmission. This engine was replaced in 2006 by the less powerful, but more rev-happy 1.2 HTP. Further revisions made in 2006 included a centre rear head rest, central 3 point seatbelt and four extra bodywork colours, as well as a new 1.4 16v 79BHP engine to replace the 1.4 16v 75BHP. The Fabia will cease production in December 2006.
