Skoda Felicia Combi
The
Škoda Felicia was a small family car produced by the Czech automaker Škoda Auto between 1994 and 2001 (1995 - 2001 for the Škoda Felicia Combi). It was first of the models to benefit from the cooperation of Škoda with the Volkswagen Group, being a reworked version of the Favorit, but with a more modern appearance and an expanded range of engines. The serial production began in late 1994.
The name Felicia had already been used by Škoda in the 1960s for a two-seater sport car which gained a great popularity, with many vehicles still in operation today.
The Škoda Felicia was available in different body types, including 5-door hatchback, an estate – replacing the Favorit-based Forman, called the Škoda Felicia Combi –, a pick-up and a panel van dubbed as a Cube Van. The pick-up was imported by some countries under the name of VW Caddy pick-up. Additionally, a special edition called Škoda Felicia Fun was created, mostly aimed for the Western European market; it was presented as a fake double cab model, with two reclineable rear seats and a fabric cover.
Thanks to the inputs of Volkswagen, the Škoda Felicia helped to improve Škoda's image in Western Europe. It was the first Škoda to feature an automobile diesel engine and several safety and convenience features like air conditioning and velour upholstery were present in some SLXI models.
In 1998, the Felicia was the protagonist of an important moment in the brand's history when it obtained the designation of "Best Manufacturer" in the JD Power Car Survey.
At the start of 2001, the production of the Škoda Felicia closed one year after the release of the Škoda Fabia. A total of 1,416,939 cars had been created (the pick-up was available for sale during 2001).
