The diesel engine powers up to 147 kW/200 HP, and with its two litre capacity and direct injection technology and common rail, it is capable of 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of 225 km/h (the petrol engine does 7.3 seconds and 240 km/h). The direct injection technology provides impressive torque of 350Nm at 1,750 revs, with a constant power at 2,500 revs. All RS models come standard with a diesel particulate filter and two-way catalytic converter, meeting EU 4 exhaust gas standards.
For added responsiveness, the Škoda Octavia RS comes with the option of a direct shift gearbox (DSG), which provides shift changes without interrupting the propulsive power - a much better alternative to the standard automatic gearbox. Plus, it accelerates like it is being thrust from a catapult! On the mechanical side, the RS suspension is lower by 12 mm, with red-coloured brake callipers for improved braking and stability. The chassis is further beefed up by 17- or 19-inch Zenith alloy wheels, a sporty stainless steel twin exhaust pipe and spoiler in the bumper, and a boot spoiler on the hatch.
