Smart fortwo electric drive

The smart fortwo electric drive is finally here. Rolling off the production line at the smart factory in Hambach, France in mid November 2009, this innovative vehicle is unlike its predecessor. It is fitted with a highly-efficient lithium-ion battery stored in a space-saving position between the axles, so no space is sacrificed. The 30 kW electric motor at the rear provides great acceleration and outstanding agility, with 120 Newton metres of torque at the ready. Charging it at a regular household socket is affordable, and a full charge costs approximately two euros, with a range of 115 kilometres - enough for most city trips. By introducing electric drive, smart has made zero-emission urban mobility a real option. Initially, the electric drive will be leased to customers in Berlin and other parts of Europe and the USA for in-depth testing in real-world conditions. In 2012, it will be available for anyone interested. The smart fortwo has been setting the trend for environmental friendliness and modern functionality for over a decade. Despite its small size - only 2.5 metres - it has the lowest fleet consumption of any car. Its youthful yet sophisticated design is timeless, and stands to prove that you can travel sustainably and stylishly. All in all, the smart fortwo has created a class of its own.
