Subaru B9 Tribeca
The Subaru B9 Tribeca is a five- or seven-seat mid-size crossover SUV which first appeared on the market in June 2005, as a 2006 model year. It is based on the Subaru Legacy platform and the B9X concept car, and was named for New York City's renowned TriBeCa neighborhood. It marked the introduction of Subaru's new design language of a triangular grille and a rounded body, which some in the Subaru community have found to be controversial.
The B9 Tribeca is equipped with a 3.0 L boxer engine and is priced from US$ 30,695 to 38,320. Saab also planned to release their own version of the same vehicle, known as the 9-6X, but these plans were shattered with General Motors' acquisition of Toyota's FHI stake (the parent company of Saab). It was intended to be produced alongside the Tribeca at the Lafayette, Indiana factory.
In the United States, Subaru has launched a promotional campaign for the Tribeca featuring Kansas' song "Dust in the Wind". In light of the many criticisms levied against the initial model, the Tribeca was slightly revamped for 2007. Changes included a blacked-out grille, revised struts and spring rates for better handling. Furthermore, the Special Edition package for $1300 incorporates a mesh grille, XM radio and exclusive wheel design, while there is an option for a backup camera and parking assist system when the navigation system is selected.
