Subaru Baja Turbo

The Subaru Baja is a car/truck crossover manufactured by Fuji Heavy Industries that is based on the Legacy-based Subaru Outback wagon. Instead of a large wagon's cargo area, the Baja has an open pickup truck-like bed, equipped with a tailgate. It also enables the rear passenger seats to fold down for additional space in the bed. The Baja was released in 2002, attempting to fill the gap that was left in the car industry after the discontinuation of the (larger) Ford Ranchero and the Chevrolet El Camino but it has not seen much success, due to its lack of marketing. In the 1970s, Subaru sold a smaller version of the Coupe Utility car, named BRAT, based on the subcompact Subaru 1600. Targeting mainly young drivers and suburbanites, the Baja offers the perfect combination of a car and a truck, without using an overly-inefficient SUV or full-sized truck. The 2003 Baja model was equipped with leather seats, a power driver's seat, and a sunroof. Later, the more economical Sport model was added and included cloth interior and manual seats. In 2004, a 2.5 L Turbo option was introduced with either manual or automatic Sportshift transmissions, and it could be bought with either leather or cloth interior. The Baja Sport offered different paint and trim options. For the 2005 model, new color options and minor changes were made, such as a power outlet in the center console, rear seatback net pocket, and a tonneau bed cover for Turbo models with leather interior.
