Subaru Forester
The Subaru Forester is a compact crossover SUV (or arguably a station wagon) that has been in production since 1998 by the Japanese automotive manufacturer Subaru. Since 1998, the Forester has been released in the United States and is based on the Subaru Impreza's chassis. All Subaru models made available in the United States and other countries since the early 1990s feature all-wheel drivetrains. Subaru has used the slogan "SUV tough, Car Easy" to emphasize the Forester's appeal to SUV-oriented markets. It comes with many features associated with SUVs, such as a large cargo area and more ground clearance than different Subaru models.
Before occasion, the Forester was sold in India alongside other Chevrolet models as a Chevy car. As General Motors no longer retains ownership in Subaru's parent company—Fuji Heavy Industries—Chevrolet-branded Forester sales have been discontinued in India. The Forester is manufactured at the Japanese Gunma Yajima Factory.
In 2003, the Forester XT, a turbocharged model, joined the naturally-aspirated X and XS models released in the United States as a 2004 model. It was already available elsewhere in the world around the late 1990s. The XT model features a 2.5L turbocharged engine paired with the Mitsubishi TD04 turbocharger found in the Subaru Impreza WRX. This engine was even used in the Subaru Impreza WRX STi, but with the TD04 turbocharger from the WRX, a smaller intercooler, different exhaust system, and different engine management programming.
Refinements such as an aluminum hood, perforated rails, and a hydroformed front frame have been integrated into the 2003 Forester to reduce weight. Car and Driver magazine has crowned this model the Best Small SUV for 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 2006, the turbocharged engine of the Forester XT was awarded International Engine of the Year and is also used by the Subaru Impreza WRX and the re-branded Saab 9-2X.
