Since 2003, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) has been diligently providing support for the Subaru World Rally Team (SWRT), who partake in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Both FHI and SWRT have been collaborating on optimising the performance of the Impreza, gathering all the necessary data and technology from the rally, and applying it to the production of the Impreza base model. As a result, the WR car was based on a facelift of the new Impreza.
