Subaru Impreza WRX 2006 posters

Subaru Impreza WRX STI

The Subaru Impreza WRX STI, formerly known as STi up until 2006, is the most powerful and highest trim model within the Subaru Impreza lineup. In the late 1980s, Subaru created the Subaru Tecnica International (STI) division, which was developed to manage the company's activities in the FIA World Rally Championship and other motorsports events. This division then went on to create the turbocharged and all-wheel drive Subaru Impreza WRX STi. The car's participation in rallies is still ongoing and it remains a powerful off-road vehicle. The 2001 WRX STi received several upgrades such as a chassis structure that featured a 120% improvement in its torsional rigidity. 17" x 7.5" alloy wheels replaced the 16" x 7" ones and the 5-speed transmission, considered to be one of the weak points, was changed to a superior 6-speed manual gearbox. As for the engine, an EJ207 label was retained due to the semi-closed deck block while IHI turbochargers were installed for extra performance. The interior received a STi logo on the gauge and a red shift light was added. To top things off, Brembo 4-pot brake callipers on the front and 2-pot on the rear of STi and optioned Type RA STi heightened the level of braking power while Type RA STi got Subaru 4-pot on the front and 2-pot at the back. Visually, the Subaru Impreza WRX STI was now recognisable thanks to its larger hoodscoops and foglight covers with the STi emblem. The DCCD was further improved to work alongside the anti-lock brakes, meaning that when the brakes are in use, the DCCD will automatically switch to an open-mode with no locking.
