Subaru Justy 1984 posters

Subaru Justy

The Subaru Justy is a compact hatchback that has been in production since 1984. Initially, the vehicle was made available with either a 1.0 or 1.2L three-cylinder engine and a manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT) with either front or four-wheel drive. The CVT option was chosen due to the small engine size and its lack of performance when equipped with a conventional automatic transmission. The manual version of the Justy was renowned for its fuel economy and reliability. Reports boasted that the vehicle could reach 50 miles per gallon. Unfortunately, typical of a compact hatchback, the Justy was noisy and small. Plus, the five-speed manual transmission was not very smooth, as its synchronizers were of lower quality. However, the CVT transmission allowed the small engine to reach reasonable acceleration performance. In the United States the CVT system was thought to be unreliable, but this was not the case elsewhere. The Justy family consists of four versions, with the first one being released in 1984 and a rework in 1989. In 1994, a Subaru Justy relabeled Suzuki Swift was made available in most of Europe. In 2004, it was replaced by a Suzuki Ignis rebranded as the Subaru G3X Justy. In Europe and some other countries, the Justy is also sold under the name Subaru Trendy.
