Subaru Outback

Subaru of America, Inc. unveiled the completely redesigned 2010 Subaru Outback at the 2009 New York International Auto Show, the fourth-generation of the famous World's First Sport Utility Wagon®. With distinctive and sophisticated styling, the new Outback offers improved performance, comfort, and efficiency thanks to a refreshed chassis and the new Subaru Lineartronic™ CVT. It also boasts a segment-leading swing-out roof rail and crossbar design and enhanced ground clearance of 8.7 inches. The latest edition of the Outback is smaller than most crossovers but offers mid-size interior space. The wheelbase has been extended to 107.9 inches, which increases rear seat legroom to 37.8 inches, while total passenger room has grown by 8 cubic feet to 105.4 cu. ft. It is also 2 inches wider to provide more shoulder and hip space, and has more headroom. Despite all the added space, the 2010 Subaru Outback is nearly one inch shorter than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the new vehicle is 4 inches taller, giving it greater cargo area height and a sizeable 71.3 cu. ft. cargo capacity when the rear seatbacks are folded. Its predecessors may be recognizable in the 2010 Subaru Outback, though its design is bolder and has a greater road presence with a wider track and expressive wheel arches. Drivers can expect improved acceleration, response, and fuel economy with three 2.5i models powered by a revised 170-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine, and three new range-topping Subaru Outback 3.6R models with a 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder Boxer coupled with a 5-speed electronic automatic transmission. Standard Vehicle Dynamics Control and Hill Holder System are featured on all models, and, of course, Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is still standard equipment.
