Suzuki Swift 2005 posters

Suzuki Swift VVT

The latest Suzuki Swift VVT was unveiled at the Paris Auto Salon in September 2004. Following its launch, this model became Suzuki's first global car, which was designed by Indian engineers to compete with the likes of Peugeot 206, Opel Corsa and Fiat Punto in the B segment market. It was available in 3- and 5-door body styles, and was powered by either 1.3 or 1.5L engines. The exterior of the Swift was heavily inspired by the BMW MINI, thanks to its close-cropped A-pillars and finished black schooner, giving it a '1.5 box' silhouette. Despite Suzuki's history with General Motors, the Swift was an entirely independent production using no parts from the GM Gamma platform. In its road test, British Autocar magazine praised the new Swift with a generous 4/5 star review, dubbing it an "thoroughly impressive all-rounder". It was also awarded 4-stars in the EURO NCAP crash tests. Standard equipment included leather steering wheel, dual air-bags, ABS with EBD, front disk brake with rear drum brake, a single CD player and a sliding storage unit beneath the passenger seat. Unsurprisingly, the new Swift proved to be an immediate success, with sales figure doubling their initial forecast in Japan, and sales in India also rising steadily. This, coupled with the many locally sourced components, resulted in a 64% increase in profits for the Maruti corporation in the first quarter after launch. Demand for the vehicle is so high that the waiting period is currently at least three months.
