Suzuki Swift Rally Car

The Suzuki Swift was unveiled at the Paris Auto Salon in September 2004. It was designed with the intention to compete in the European B segment, alongwith popular cars such as the Peugeot 206, Opel Corsa, and the Fiat Punto. Available in 1.3 and 1.5L engine options, the global car was produced in Hungary, India, Japan, and by Chang'an in China, with 3- and 5-door body styles. This was the first occasion when Suzuki employed Indian engineers to design a car for the global market. Its design had been previewed through the Concept S and Concept S2 concept cars at auto shows, leading up to its launch. It features a similar stance to the BMW MINI, with a 1.5 box shape and blacked-out A-pillars. Despite Suzuki previously working closely with General Motors, the new Swift is based solely on Suzuki components and has received a 4/5 stars rating from the prestigious British Autocar magazine, describing it as a "thoroughly impressive all-rounder". It was also given a 4 stars out of 5 rating in the EURO NCAP crash tests. Standard equipment for the car includes leather steering wheel, dual airbags, ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), front disk brake with a rear drum brake, a sliding storage compartment under the passenger seat, and a single CD player. Since its global launch in 2005, the Mk4 Swift has seen sales figures well above expectations. In Japan, sales had even doubled original forecasts. It has also proved to be popular in India, with a significant part of the car being built with locally-made components contributing to the 64% rise in Maruti Corporation's Q1 profits. Such is the demand for the car in India that buyers currently have to wait for at least three months before they get the car.
