Tesla Roadster Sport

The Tesla Roadster Sport is an enhanced version of the world's leading all-electric, zero-emission vehicle, Tesla Motors Inc.'s Tesla Roadster. With a hand-wound stator and increased winding density for lower resistance and higher peak torque plus Yokohama Ultra High Performance tires, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. Drivers can also customize the suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars to suit their preferences. This vehicle is twice as efficient as compact hybrid sedans, yet its performance beats nearly anything in its price class. Starting at $128,500 in the United States and €112,000 (excluding VAT) in Europe and available for delivery in late June 2009, the Tesla Roadster Sport is Tesla's first derivative of its proprietary powertrain. The San Carlos, Calif.-based auto manufacturer plans to start producing its five-passenger sedan, the Tesla Model S, in 2011. Over 150 Roadsters have already been delivered and about 1,100 people are on the waiting list, so customers who have not yet taken delivery have the chance to upgrade to the Roadster Sport. As stated by Tesla's CEO, Chairman and Product Architect Elon Musk, "The Tesla Roadster Sport embodies Tesla's spirit of continuous improvement. The Roadster has been a great success, but no one at this company remains satisfied with the status quo."
