Toyota A-BAT Concept

The Toyota A-BAT concept presents a modern, versatile and stylish option for people who need the convenience of a compact pickup truck but crave something different. Visitors to the Toyota exhibit at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, beginning Monday, Jan. 14, will be able to see the advanced and environmentally friendly A-BAT concept for themselves. "Driving from beyond the suburbs to the city is a way of life for many people," said Kevin Hunter, president of Calty Design Research, Inc. "We crafted a vehicle perfectly suited for those who find themselves bouncing between both - having the capability to take on dirt roads and long commutes with equal ease, while accommodating outdoor toys and home improvement supplies, all with the added bonus of ultra-low emissions and awesome fuel economy.” The A-BAT was designed by the TMS Advanced Product Strategy group and Toyota's North American research and design center at Calty, located in Newport Beach, California. The team developed a completely new genre of vehicle to fill an apparent gap in the marketplace, providing good fuel economy, advanced functionalities, improved maneuverability, a unique style and a durable design to suit whatever demands come their way. On top of all this, they also kept an eye on the trends to make sure the A-BAT stayed relevant and attractive in today’s market.
