The Toyota Alessandro Volta is a concept car jointly developed by the Japanese automaker Toyota and the Italian design firm Italdesign Giugiaro. Named after Alessandro Volta, the Italian physicist who invented the battery, it was displayed at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show and is a demonstration of a hybrid-powered sports vehicle. Built with a carbon fiber chassis, it has a four wheel drive hybrid powertrain from the Lexus RX 400h integrating a 3.3-litre V6 gasoline engine with two electric engines. The petrol engine is located near the rear axle, with the additional two electric engines split between the two axles. The combined power output reaches 300 kW (408 bhp) which makes the vehicle capable of attaining 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) acceleration time of 4.03 seconds and peak speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
