Toyota Avensis Sedan

The Toyota Avensis is an automobile that has been built in Burnaston, Derbyshire, United Kingdom for Toyota since 1997. It is available in a variety of styles, such as a four-door saloon, five-door hatchback, estate, and MPV called the Toyota Avensis Verso (Toyota Ipsum in Japan and previously the Toyota Picnic in other markets). It is designed to compete with the Volkswagen Passat in Europe and forms the basis for the youth-oriented, North American-market Scion tC. In 2003, the second generation Avensis was launched offering enhanced driver involvement. Engines included 1.6 L, 1.8 L and 2.0 L petrols and a 2.0 L turbodiesel as well as a 2.4 L four cylinder from the Camry and it was the first model to be exported to Japan. As the Camry wagon went into retirement, the Avensis wagon was exported to New Zealand in both 1.8L and 2.0L forms. Although the Avensis missed out on 2004's European Car of the Year award, coming fourth behind the Fiat Panda, Volkswagen Golf, and Mazda3, it continues to be a top choice among consumers. Following the end of the Toyota Camry production in 2004 (2005 for Switzerland), the Avensis is now the largest Toyota saloon available in Europe. In Spain there are two models available, Sol and Executive, while Ireland presents four trim levels – Aura, Strata, Luna, and Sol. The original 115 PS (85 kW) D-4D engine has been complemented with a 2.2 L D-4D in 150 PS (110 kW) and 177 PS (130 kW) versions. Newer versions have dropped the "D-4D" and "2.0" badging from the front wings and tailgate respectively. The Avensis Verso remained on the market until 2006, when it was replaced with a model featuring Toyota's 2.2 L D-4D engine.
