This version of the Toyota Camry provides a selection of three power trains, all of which were upgraded in 2012 to be more fuel-efficient and to deliver a more robust performance. The modified 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine now boasts 178 horsepower, which is nine more than before, and 170 lb-ft of peak torque. The Environmental Protection Agency-estimated fuel economy is 25 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway, with a combined 28 mpg — which is two mpg more than the past-generation Camry. The 2.5-liter engine uses Dual VVT-i (Dual Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) to regulate timing on the valves of the intake and exhaust camshafts for better performance and efficiency at all motor speeds. The Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS) is also included, helping to optimize torque across a broad range of engine speeds.
