The Camry Solara of the second generation was released to the public in 2004, boasting of a more curvaceous profile. It was offered in two engine variants; a 2.4L 16-valve 4-cylinder that was capable of producing 157 hp and a newly added, 3.3L 24-valve V6 that delivered 225 hp. When opting for the four-cylinder engine, drivers were presented with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox, while the V6 could only be mated to a five-speed automatic transmission and equipped with E-shift. Both engines were being powered by Toyota's VVT-i technology. The car with the 3.3L V6 engine could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under seven seconds and finish a quarter mile track in low 15 seconds. On the other hand, the 4-cylinder version of the Camry Solara was capable of taking 0 to 60 mph in an estimated 8-9 seconds range and complete a quarter mile in the mid 16-high 16 seconds time depending on the transmission type. In 2006, the 4-speed automatic was replaced with the five-speed E-shift automatic transmission for the Solara.
