The highly anticipated 2011 Toyota Corolla made its debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. Performance and Efficiency
The 2011 Corolla features Toyota's Star Safety System™ equipped as standard, with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. It additionally includes Smart Stop Technology brake-override system. It is available in three grades—Corolla, LE and S—and all of them come with a 1.8-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine that produces 132 hp at 6,000 rpm and 128 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. This engine is equipped with the Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that regulates valve timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts and is optimized to minimize friction. Corolla models are furnished with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT), while the LE model features a four-speed automatic standard. The Corolla S is available with a five-speed manual transmission or with a four-speed automatic. The four-speed auto is powered by a torque converter with flex lockup for improved fuel efficiency and includes an uphill/downhill shift control. To add to the driver experience, manual shifting is available when the shift lever is pushed left from the 'D' position into the 'S' position and then the driver can use the forward/back motion to shift up/down. A gear indicator is featured in the combination gauge.
