Toyota FT-CH Concept

The Toyota FT-CH Concept was unveiled at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit by Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A, Inc., demonstrating Toyota's commitment to a wider variety of conventional hybrid choices ahead of plug-in hybrid (PHV) and battery electric (BEV) models arriving in 2012, followed by hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCHVs) in 2015. Jim Lentz, TMS president, expressed that, "within the next 10 to 20 years, we will not only reach peak oil we will enter a period where demand for all liquid fuels will exceed supply... A century after the invention of the automobile, we must re-invent it with powertrains that significantly reduce or eliminate the use of conventional petroleum fuels." The Toyota FT-CH Concept is a compact hybrid class car designed for the inner-city environment. Though it is 22 inches shorter than the Toyota Prius in total length, it only loses an inch in total width, providing passengers with maximum comfort and interior roominess. It has been styled by Toyota's European Design and Development (ED²) center in Nice, France for a sense of style and practicality. "It's a package Toyota dealers and customers have been asking for," added Lentz.
