Toyota FT-EV Concept

Toyota has confirmed its plan to bring an electric urban commuter vehicle (BEV) to the market by 2012 and is displaying its Toyota FT-EV concept on opening Media Day at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). This is in addition to its Camry Hybrid concept displayed at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, further showcasing the company's aim to broaden the scope of its advanced alternative-fuel vehicle development. “It is important that, amidst all current pressing issues, we remain focused on our future,” said Irv Miller, TMS Group Vice President, Environmental and Public Affairs. “We must demonstrate our commitment to providing sustainable mobility through vehicles which aid in reducing fuel consumption, carbon footprint and greenhouse gases.” The Toyota FT-EV concept, which is based on the Toyota iQ urban commuter vehicle, is designed for urban living and has a maximum range of 50 miles. The iQ, a huge success in Japan, is lightweight, seats four comfortably, and provides impeccable mileage, sporty performance, unique refinements and a fun look. Toyota FT-EV concept takes the capabilities of the iQ to the next level, providing a perfect concept to complement the current range of product strategies.
